Modern Warfare 2 players have criticized Infinity Ward after the Season 2 map leak.
Modern Warfare 2 players have the Season 1 Reloaded update they are looking forward to when the Chimera Assault Rifle arrives in the game. The classic map “Shipment” will also debut on December 14, along with the mid-season update.
Despite this new content on the horizon, new leaks that surfaced on December 5 have left players looking forward to Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2. The leaks have detailed key art for the upcoming content release and have hinted at the return of the World at War’s Castle map.
The news was not long in coming as Castle recently appeared in the 2021 film Vanguard. Given Call of Duty’s rich history, Modern Warfare 2 players were disappointed by the perceived decision to offer Castle as the new map for Season 2.
According to the community, the most voted comment under the aforementioned Reddit post sums up the problem perfectly: “The idea of adding Castle, a map from World At War, to Infinity Ward…after there was ALREADY a COD game that remade Castle just last year in Vanguard, this is fucking stupid. What the hell is going on at IW?”
Players seem to agree that the balance between new maps and classic maps is perfect if the updated maps are in need of an update. As one player put it, “Less NEW cards worries me more, I just want new content with a few select old hits.”
Countless players were outraged in the comments when the discussion around Modern Warfare 2 maps ensued. It seems that the combination of not having new cards and choosing which classic cards are returning has left players stumped.
One player pointed out that maps we haven’t seen in years could integrate into the Modern Warfare 2 ecosystem: “We could expand maps like Bloc, Crossfire, Pipeline and Overgrown a bit and make them maps for Ground War/ Invasion, just to show the card’s return potential.”
With Season 2 set for February 1st, we’ll have to wait and see if the original leaks are correct.
