Modern Warfare 2 players accused Activation of being “frightened” by FPS rival XDefiant.

Ubisoft’s XDefiant is the latest game trying to make a name for itself in the FPS space, taking factions from big games like The Division and Far Cry and adding them to the classic arena shooter. Several former Call of Duty developers are working on the project, with streamers like FaZe Jev claiming that XDefiant has what it takes to be a CoD killer.

XDefiant’s open beta is currently underway, giving PlayStation and Xbox players a first glimpse of what’s in store for the upcoming first-person shooter.

However, Activision announced that it would be holding Modern Warfare 2 ‘s multiplayer free weekend at the same time , and fans did not believe this was a coincidence.

The Modern Warfare 2 Free Access Period will run from June 22 to June 26, allowing players to try the new Season 4 content. Meanwhile, the opening of XDefiant began on June 21 and will last until June 23.

Activision pulled off a similar stunt when it announced the XDefiant closed beta, while also hosting another free weekend for Modern Warfare 2, forcing new players to choose between the two. “CoD literally had a free week during the XDefiant beta due to how many players they lost in that time,” reads one reply.

The full release of XDefiant is expected at the end of 2023, so only time will tell if Ubisoft’s FPS proves to be a real contender for the throne of Call of Duty.
