With so many weapons to unlock and Mastery camos to obtain, you may not know what to use. Now that we’ve had time to try out all the weapons in Modern Warfare 2 , we’ve ranked all 77 weapons from best to worst and counted down the top 10.
Just because some weapons are at the bottom of the list doesn’t mean they’re ineffective. You can have success with almost every weapon on the list, you may just have to adjust your playstyle.

10. FR Advancer
Since its introduction in the Season 5 update, the FR Avanser assault rifle, also known as the FAMAS in Black Ops, has made a name for itself, beating out some of the top tier weapons to take the final spot on this list.
The weapon has an increased rate of fire, moderate range, good handling and kill time, making it invincible at medium ranges against other assault rifles or even submachine guns.
9. Fennec 45
The Fennec is traditionally a fantastic choice in any Call of Duty game, and that remains true with the Fennec from Modern Warfare 2. It has almost everything you want in a submachine gun, including fast TTK at close range. It’s also forgiving, so you don’t even have to be a very accurate player to get the most out of it.
Of course, you won’t win these long-range firefights, so use it like a traditional submachine gun and you’ll have no problem dominating Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer.
8. VEL 46
The MP7 remains a firm favorite in the Call of Duty community, as does its Modern Warfare 2 version, the VEL 46. The gun is a formidable opponent for close-range combat, possessing a fast TTK and exceptional mobility.
Staying true to its predecessor, it has minimal recoil and holds its own surprisingly well in mid-range combat, something not typically associated with submachine guns.
7. SP-R 208
Fast aim is as dominant as ever in Modern Warfare 2, and while sniper rifles are a powerful choice, most players will gravitate towards the SP-R 208.
This marksman rifle has incredibly high ADS speed and can one-shot almost anywhere on the torso, allowing players to score one-shot kills with ease. The SP-R 208 has managed to avoid nerfs in previous seasons, but we’ll be surprised if it stays this powerful for too long.
6. SA-B 50
The SA-B 50 stands out as the game’s top tier marksman rifle, optimized for speed and accuracy. it has great maneuverability and mobility. While it may have a slower rate of fire and recoil control than other rifles, its superior handling and mobility make it stand out as an exceptional choice among marksman rifles.
After a significant increase in overall speed, including ADS, hip spread, and a slight increase in damage range in the Season 6 update, this weapon has increased in popularity, allowing players to take down enemies at medium to long ranges in the game.
5. Kastov 762
The Kastov 762 assault rifle from Modern Warfare 2 is an improved version of the Kastov 545, although slightly more difficult to use. What makes the Kastov 762 so effective is its damage, which will win you almost any head-to-head firefight at around 38 meters.
The limitations of 6v6 multiplayer make it a near-perfect choice, it’s just a little more difficult to use than some of the other options on this list.
4. Kastov-74u
Almost no one would argue that the Kastov-74u assault rifle is one of the best weapons in Modern Warfare 2. With low recoil, high mobility, and a super-fast kill time, you simply can’t go wrong with the Kastov-74u. .
This assault rifle is more like a submachine gun, with the stopping power to defeat both weapon classes at better ranges. Even though the headshot damage was previously reduced, it is still a contender to this day.
3. Vaznev-9k
The Vaznev -9k is a powerful yet easy-to-use submachine gun that will serve you well on any map and in any situation. Like the M4, the Vaznev-9k has almost everything: solid damage, high mobility and low recoil.
Even though close and mid-range damage range has been reduced in previous seasons, Waznev will always serve you well, no matter the map or mode.
2. M4
The M4 has consistently been a powerful weapon in every Call of Duty game, and of course, it’s a standout choice in Modern Warfare 2 as well .
As the first assault rifle you unlock and its platform leading to other great options, there’s no reason not to try out the M4 when you’re just starting out and building your first loadout. But even if you’ve been playing for a while, the game is so robust that you’ll rarely feel at a disadvantage.
1. TAQ-56 is the best weapon in Modern Warfare 2 at the moment
An absolute classic, the SCAR is present in Modern Warfare 2 as the TAQ-56, and players are happy to see that it is still at the top of the meta. The AR quickly became the center of attention due to its remarkable range, incredibly low recoil, and unique sights.
Assault rifles are extremely powerful in Modern Warfare 2, and the TAQ-56 can loom both up close and at a distance. The weapon was slightly nerfed in previous seasons, but this did not knock it off the top spot in season six.
