How to properly set up a controller for the Modern Warfare 3 beta

To fully enjoy the beta and succeed in the game, Modern Warfare 3 players can customize their controller settings, defining aspects such as aiming and movement, among other things. However, some of these configurations may involve complex game mechanics that may be difficult to understand at first.

Unfortunately, there won’t be a list of settings that will suit everyone perfectly. Therefore, the most effective approach to finding your optimal control setup is to make the most of the MW3 beta, testing out different configurations until you find one that suits your preferences and playstyle.

Inputs

  • Bumper Sound:  Off
  • Preset Button Layout:  Tactical
  • Swap L1/R1 with L2/R2:   If you want to speed up your button presses or play with claw grip, you can enable this.
  • Stick Layout Preset:  Default
  • Controller Vibration:   Off
  • Trigger Effect (PS5):  Off

Modern Warfare 3 introduces a new  deadzone input test  , which allows players  to accurately check the deadzone of their joysticks in real time  and fine-tune them.

Reducing dead zone settings to minimum values increases reaction time and aiming accuracy, resulting in faster response times and greater accuracy.

Aiming

  • Horizontal knob sensitivity:   6
  • Vertical handle sensitivity:   6
  • ADS sensitivity multiplier:   0.90
  • Sensitivity multiplier:
    • Ground vehicles:  1.00
    • Tablet:  1.00
  • Vertical aiming axis:
    • Walking:  Standard
    • Ground vehicles:  standard
  • Tactical stance sensitivity multiplier:  0.90.
  • Target Response Curve Type:  Dynamic
  • ADS Sensitivity Multiplier (Focus):  0.90
  • ADS sensitivity transition time:  instantaneous
  • Custom sensitivity for each scale:  Off

For optimal gaming experience in the Modern Warfare 3 Beta, we suggest starting with  a sensitivity setting of 6  , although sensitivity is a matter of personal preference. As you gain experience, consider gradually increasing sensitivity to a comfortable level.

Higher sensitivity settings allow you to turn faster, giving you an advantage in reacting to enemies approaching from different angles.

If you want your aim assist to be perfectly tuned while playing the Modern Warfare 3 beta, you can take it a step further by making sure you’re using the best type of aim assist. Here’s what each type means:

  • Default:  Traditional near target slowdown used in Modern Warfare games.
  • Precision:  A strong aiming slow that only triggers when approaching the target. Recommended for precision players.
  • Focus:  A strong aiming slow that also triggers when you narrowly miss your target. Recommended for players new to analogue aiming.
  • Black Ops:  Traditional near target slowdown used in Black Ops games.

The Focus type  is ideal for new shooters, but once you gain confidence, it is advisable to move away from it as you may feel that the aim assist is too effective.

While there is no significant difference between the Black Ops and  Default aim assist types  , experimenting with both can determine which one suits your preferences.

The Modern Warfare 3 beta offers players three types of aim response curves that change how aim speed responds to stick movements, so here’s a breakdown of the three types you’ll find in the game:

  • Standard:  Simple power curve map from aim stick to aim speed.
  • Linear:  Aim maps are routed directly to aim speed.
  • Dynamics:  Displays an inverse S-curve for precise aiming speed control.

When it comes to the aiming response curve, most players prefer  the standard  option due to its naturalness. However, if you are experienced and comfortable with the controller,  we suggest using the Dynamic option  for more precise control. Finally, avoid the linear option altogether   for the best experience.

While it may not be immediately obvious,  adjusting your viewing angle  can have a significant impact on both the performance of your controller and the performance of your mouse and keyboard when playing the Modern Warfare 3 beta.

We suggest adjusting the field of view in  the range from 100 to 115  . This strikes a balance, allowing you to have a wide view of your surroundings to avoid surprise attacks, while still ensuring that enemy players remain sufficiently visible and easy to track without looking too small.
