Controversial Modern Warfare 2 map returns in Season 2 of Reloaded

When Modern Warfare 2 released in November 2022   , there were plenty of multiplayer maps for fans to explore. These ranged from huge Ground War maps to more compact 6v6 arenas.

One map in particular immediately divided the community—the Santa Sena border crossing. Players were unimpressed by its simple design and dozens of exploding vehicles, and it was regularly ranked as Modern Warfare 2’s worst map.

Border Crossing was then quietly removed at the start of the second season of MW2 without any communication from Infinity Ward. Now, after appearing in the 10v10 playlist, fans have noticed that the controversial map is back in 6v6 with a mid-season update.

Reddit user Fox_Two666 posted to let other players know he’s back, saying “Beware! The Santa Sena border crossing is working again.”

The removal of the map has led fans to speculate that the developers may have put in an overhaul to iron out some of the issues players were experiencing, much like Miami from Black Ops Cold War. However, he looks and plays exactly the same as before, which confuses fans.

“I don’t understand why they didn’t do it at all if they weren’t going to Miami. Take it out and then put it back in exactly the same way as before? Why?” one disgruntled player said.

Again, there was no mention of the return of Crossing the Border in the Season 2 Reboot patch notes, so it’s not clear at this point why it was removed, or if anything has changed now that it’s reappearing in Modern Warfare  2  .

Players seemed to agree that the most likely reason was to fix bugs and crashes, or just gauge how the community felt about its removal, but nothing has been confirmed.

Despite the backlash against the map, some players felt that removing it from the game entirely was not a solution, as there has been constant complaining about map diversity since the release of MW2.

Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Reloaded also added the new Himmelmatt Expo map, so players now have a full set of 15 6v6 arenas to fight in, and they’ll be hoping for more in Season 3 and beyond.
